Banned Books Week

Next week, September 27 through October 4, is Banned Books Week. There are many Web sites available that offer information about the event, as well as those that trace the history of censorship and challenges to the freedom to read. The Pelham Public Library, in Fonthill, Ontario, Canada, has put together a nice blog that discusses these issues and links out to many Web sites. You can find it at http://www.pelhamlibrary.blogspot.com/.

Also, I recommend the American Library Association's page on the event at http://www.ala.org/ala/aboutala/offices/oif/bannedbooksweek/bannedbooksweek.cfm.

Keeping Track of What's New in the Music Library

Have you ever wondered how you can keep tabs on new items in the Music Library? Here's how: Go to our "New in the Library" Web page at https://i-share.carli.illinois.edu/newbooks/newbooks.cgi?library=NIUdb, and select "Music Library Collection" from the "Location" box on the left side at the top of the page.

If you want to subscribe to an RSS feed of this content, click on the "XML" button next to "RSS Feed" in the red bar across the top of the screen. You can then click on "Subscribe to this feed" on the feed page if you want. If you use a feed reader, you can copy the URL from this page into your reader.

Some new items

The Music Library recently received two items worth highlighting in the blog:

and

The Louis Armstrong CD set is beautifully packaged with an 83 page booklet.
